COMPETITION

This is the intended general schedule for the competition, don’t hold us to it. Leeds University reserves the right to change the format without prior notice.

The main events are open the Higher Education Students only (i.e. University Students - over 18s). The categories include K1, C1, Squirt, and the infamous Topo Duo.

K1
The competition commences with an extreme slalom in which competitors are required to perform a variety of stipulated moves on designated parts of the course. Judges will be in place throughout the course to score the moves from 0-10. Naturally bonus points will be on offer for originality and humour. The competitors will then be split, according to the results of the extreme slalom, into different categories, with 3 tiers in the Mens' event and 2 in the Womens'. The freestyle event will be conducted according to such categories.
The expert heats will implement a typical freestyle scoring system designed to award the difficulty and variety of the moves performed. However, the novice and intermediate categories will be scored with a much larger emphasis placed on determination and humour.

K1 Open
This is run from the original heats to the finals using the same freestyle scoring system as the K1 experts.

C1
Competitors will run the extreme slalom just like the K1 event. The top six from the slalom will then go into a freestyle competition.

Squirt
The squirt will be run as a straight final. We will be looking to have a coaching session available before the event so this will be a perfect chance to work on your skills.

Topo Duo
This infamous event often involves few clothes and/ or inflatable toys. First a head to head down river race will be held with the best of the best moving through to the freestyle heats. The freestyle section will be judged with a large emphasis on old skool moves such as pop out and paddle twirls.

King of the Wave
This event will be open to the top male and female paddler in the extreme
slalom from each university, there will be seperate male and female events.
There will be a two minute slot where anyone can drop down on to the top
wave (and get out and come back round if they are quick), after that nobody
is allowed back on to the wave and the last person surfing the wave is the
winner, simple but brilliant! All paddlers will be entering this event having signed a disclaimer and entered entirely at their own risk :-).

Safety
Safety cover is provided by a team organised by Leeds Uni. However if you think that a member of your University is likely to swim, please on stand by to lend a hand. Also feel free to offer your services as part of our safety team. .
Judging is also provided by volunteers from the paddling world. Make sure you buy the right people drinks on the Saturday night.
