FAQ

Q: When and where is it?

A: The National Student Rodeo is held at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, on the 2nd - 4th March. We camp at the campsite down the road and use the Old Nottinghamian’s Rugby Club and pitches for the party.

Q: What is it?

A: We believe that NSR is the largest freestyle paddling event in the world, the biggest student kayaking event in the UK, and the best paddling party in existence.

Q: I’m still at school, can I still come along?

A: Unfortunately not, the NSR is open to Higher Education Students only, that means over the age of 18.

Q: What about if I am on a gap year?

A: If you are over the age of 18 and can find a University Canoe Club who is attending to enter you, then I don’t see a problem with you attending on your gap year. You will, however, need appropriate insurance. This can be covered by BCU membership. Also, you will only be able to compete in the Old Skool event, rock up in a pre 2000 boat and get involved!

Q: I’ve not been paddling for very long, can I still come anyway?

A: Of course! You are what the National Student Rodeo is all about! It is designed for all abilities, and we have a team to ensure the event is run safely for you to fully enjoy. The event is designed to encourage more people into the sport, and all the best prizes go to beginners so you have no excuse not to compete!

Q: Is there an open competition?

A: The Old Skool event is our open competition, for old boys (and gals) and students alike!

Q: Will I get sick from the water at HPP?

A: It is quite possible you will end up feeling a little worse for wear when you leave after the weekend, but let’s be honest, that is going to be due to poor nutrition, lack of sleep and excess drinking. The Water Sports Centre checks the water quality every day, and would not let us use the course if it was dangerous. Anyway, just keep your mouth shut when you’re in the water!

Q: How do I register?

A: Your club captain is in charge of posting a sign-up sheet after the Christmas holidays, and is then responsible for entering all details onto our online system. For captains who do not known their username and password, or for first time attendees, please contact us via the details on our contacts page.

Q: Our club has never been to the rodeo, how do we get involved?

A: Chat to your club captain and get them to email us through the contacts page, and we’ll set the ball rolling.

Q: That sounds like a lot of money for a weekend, where does my money go?

A: We can promise you that the Rodeo is not run for a profit. Every penny you give to us gets spent on giving you the best weekend possible. Included in the main ticket cost is two nights camping, one meal, two evenings of entertainment and a bar, one of which being the most mental party you will ever attend! (The bit River Legacy is involved in! See their website on the link to the left) You also get entry into one event. We think that compared to a lot of other events that it is absolute value for money.
