Coaching Clinics

Tom Parker of Tom Parker Coaching fame will be offering a number of free coaching clinics. This will rage from beginners freestyle sessios to looping clinics.

Kim Seikermann will be running female drop in freestyle sessions, and James weir will be getting all devient with a fleet of Esquif demo whitewater open canoes for you to try. Fancy trying squirtboating? World Champion Ben White is the man to speak to.

Don't know your Tricky Woo from your Harry Potter? Chair of the Freestyle committee and Chief Judge for the World Championships, Emily Wall, is going to be running a Judge Training Session. Don't miss out if you think you might want to help judge next year's event.

A full schedule of events will be announced shortly and competitors will be invited to sign up for all clinics on the day.

Safety

Each University is responsible for the safety of their own members. If you think that someone is likely to swim, please have someone ready to give them a hand. We will have a trained safety team on hand to help retrieve swimmers and pinned boats. Safety is our first priority and a link to a copy of our risk asssessment can be found at the bottom of this page.
We've now got enough volunteers for safety, masssive thanks to everyone who has offered to help out. If you are interested in being a hero for the 2009 event please get in touch nearer the time.

Events

The following events will be run during the weekend:
K1, C1, Topo Duo, Open Expression Session, Squirt and Invitational King/Queen of the Wave.

All events will be run in a similar fashion to last year. However it should be noted that our judging system is being adapted to encourage more of an "Expression Session". It is not about just reeling off lots of cartwheels etc. Innovation, imagination and balls will all be rewarded. We will have a pro panel of judges.

Prizes

This year's prizes are the best yet. We've got boats from Pyranha and Dagger, there's gear from the guys at Desperate Measures, a full set of ladies' kit from Palm, toastie warm socks from Immersion Research, gear from The North Face (Leeds) and Cotswold Outdoor, the brand new PGL trophy and a whole heap of other miscellaneous oddments. The best prizes will be given to those thought most most worthy rather than the winners, so don't worry if you're crap! Keep smiling and remember we're open to bribary.
